We believe that if India has to move ahead, all Indians have to move ahead together :Rahul Gandhi
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi addressing an election rally in Uttar Pradesh’s  Maharajganj, began by thanking all present for welcoming him so warmly. He said “For the past 5 years, UPA government has been at the centre. We had promised you that the government would be the common man’s government, the poor person’s, the dalit and tribal people’s government. And during the last five years we have ensured this...” Enumerating the work done by the UPA government Rahul Gandhi said “In the last 5 years, we implemented the rural employment guarantee bill. Through this programme we ensured that crores of poor people were guaranteed 100 days of employment. Mid day meal scheme was implemented in schools, for the children of poor people. We ensured that children of poor people in all the schools across the country were given food.” Speaking about RTI Rahul Gandhi said. “UPA implemented Right to Information, through which a common man can question the working of the government.” Referring to UPA government’s achievement as far as the Nuclear Deal was concerned, Rahul Gandhi said that the deal would, in future, help bring electricity to our houses. “We believe that if India has to move ahead, all Indians have to move ahead together. It does not matter whether he is rich or poor, which class he belonged to, which religion he belonged to, which state he belonged to. We feel that all of us have to move forward together. “But our opposition parties don’t believe in this. They feel that one section of the country can move forward and the other stay behind. In the last elections BJP coined a slogan which said “India Shining” First of all, the slogan was in English. The BJP failed to understand that not all people in the villages understand English, so don’t understand what India Shining means. Secondly, this illustrates another thing. We feel that we need to hold the hands of the poor people, we have to go to their houses, we need to hear them, we need to see what their problems are. Because we realize that if we don’t listen to the poor, go to their houses, we cannot help them. But the opposition feels that there is no need to hear what the poor people have to say, they think that just by raising a slogan “India Shining” the entire country will start shining. In the last 5 years we have done so much work for the poor people, we are not saying that India is shining, but we are saying that we have done a lot for the poor people and we’ll keep doing so.” Adding to this Rahul Gandhi said, “When elections are close they don’t talk about the poor people, they talk about terrorism. But I’d like to remind you that when they were in power in 2004, terrorists entered the Parliament House, and they killed people inside the parliament. I’d like to also remind them that when an Indian Airlines plane was hijacked by terrorists, the BJP government allowed the plane be taken to Kandahar, and then sent their minister to Kandahar, and there the minister begged the terrorists with folded hands, after which the BJP government set free dreaded terrorists who were in Indian jails. But the Congress party never bows down before terrorists. When terrorists attacked Mumbai our Prime Minister put such pressure on Pakistan that they have fallen silent.” “I feel sad that UPA government is working for the poor people while in Uttar Pradesh there is a government which does not take advantage of these programms. The most important programme that we have given to the people, the rural employment guarantee programme is benefiting poor people from other states but is not being implemented in Uttar Pradesh. The way it could have benefited the poor people, has not happened. Rahul Gandhi said, “Elections are around the corner, and you need to choose a government at the centre. You should support Mr Harshwardhan, vote for him & choose a government at the centre which understands the issues of the poor people and works for them.” Concluding his speech Congress General Secretary said that he’d like to speak a bit about the youth. “If you have to change the way politics is done in UP and the rest of the country you have to come forward and bring about change. If you don’t come forward and take responsibility, the state, instead of moving forward will slide backward. So do come out on Election Day and vote for the Congress party.”
